Ranga shine bright at Global Youth Sevens

The rugby year finished with a bang over the weekend, with hundreds of players descending on Dilworth School for the Global Youth Sevens, including a handful of our very own.

Finishing runners-up in the girls’ division, Rochelle Christie and Eva Kolose played for the New Zealand Cavaliers. Rochelle scored a crucial try in their quarter-final against the highly fancied Australian Schoolgirls, which helped them on their way to the final.

Brooklyn Peters, Charli Taituha and Ruby Holloway were all part of the New Zealand Māori team, who qualified in Division Two and won all three games on their final day of play.

One of the more impressive stories came from the call-up of Jadez and Pounamu player Ollie Frewin, who played for the Pacific Nomads. Ollie played almost every minute of the Nomads’ matches, scored 21 points, and picked up six Best and Fairest points.

It was an exciting end to the season, and we look forward to seeing all these players back in green and orange next season.
