The senior season was celebrated on Friday night with the annual prizegiving, recognizing the success and contribution of players, teams, and management.
In what was one of Pakuranga’s most successful senior seasons, it was the Under 85kg Panthers that were big winners on the night.
Fresh from winning the Auckland Under 85kg grade, the team was recognized with the Dufty Bell Trophy for the team with the best club spirit while Logan Kinnear won the President’s Award and Callum Dimond picked up the Brian Wilsher Trophy for Club Member of the Year. Off field, their manager Anthony Filipaina won the Graeme Heaphy Trophy for Senior Manager of the Year and Shaun Magee, the team’s physio, won the Bill Kirk Trophy for outstanding contribution to the team and club.
Premier captain, and loose forward Sione Takai won the clubs most prestigious playing award, the Charles Piutau Trophy for Senior Player of the Year, having been a key member of the premiers before earning international selection with Tonga.
The Premier Development team again lead the points scoring category, winning both team scoring most tries and most points, while first five eighths Cam James was the top senior point scorer and Caleb Nayantachi was the top try scorer.
A popular award was Charles Gibson acknowledged with the Tom Morete Trophy for Club Member possessing the most mana, while premier hooker Gafatasi Su’a received the Trevor King Trophy for outstanding performance by a club player.
