For a third week in a row all the Pakuranga senior teams recorded victories.
The fantastic start to the competition season continued with the Premiers, Premier Development, Under 21 Cannons, Under 85kg Panthers and Presidents all winning on Saturday.
“There is a great vibe at the club at the moment,” said Director of Rugby and Premier Coach Grant 'Boof’ Henson.
“With the juniors all kicking off and the third weekend in a row that all teams had wins – we want to keep this momentum going and hopefully improve it.”
It was one way traffic in the premiers 97-3 victory over Waitakere but Boof said there was plenty to take out of the match beyond the scoreline.
“I wasn’t expecting that many points. What pleased us was the team sticking to our systems and not playing freestyle – from that perspective we were really happy. We exited well, stuck to our maps and systems and our skills were up.
“Glen Rowe is doing great work on attack and the boys skills and we can see those things coming through in the game. Cole has been doing some great work around the attitude of the boys on defence and that’s been outstanding,” said Boof of the assistant coaches.
Earlier on Bell Park the Under 21s took their opportunity to impress on the main field with an exciting top-of-the-table encounter against Grammar TEC.
The game was poised for an grandstand finish when Grammar TEC closed the Cannons lead to 20-17 but a great counter attack try, finished by Gijsbert Els sealed the result and the position at the top of the table.
The Premier Development team came up against Puketapapa in another tense match up – a late try to Travis Graham locking in the seven-point win. It’s a congested table in the premier development grade – despite four wins and three bonus points, Pakuranga are fourth on the table.
The Under 85kg Panthers travelled away to University to take on last year’s champions and toiled away for a solid 17-10 win. Set piece dominance and accurate kicking from Kyle Johnson contributed to the victory. The team sit second on the table after three rounds.
The Presidents kicked off their season against Ardmore Marist and they too had a win, 4-1.
The Belles were drawn a bye in the first round, their season officially kicking off this weekend.
