PURC Weekly Update for 22/08/15

Tomorrow is a massive day for our U13 Green Championship team as they attempt to be the first Pakuranga Junior team to win back to back junior championships since 2010. There game is the highlight of tomorrows play with the game kick off at 11.30am on Bell Park. To the coaches, management and players the very best of luck for this very important game. We are very lucky that all our U13 teams will be at home tomorrow in what will be these players final game for our junior club. Go out and wear the mighty green and orange with pride guys and we will see you all back here when you have finished high school.

Also speaking of our Under 13 players, the club would like to give the best of luck to our 'Past' under 13 players who are making up a majority of local school, Macleans 7th grade rugby. These boys are heading into finals with this team this weekend. Great to see the Pakuranga talent going to good use. Jake Barfoot, Nathan Bevan, Samuel Buchanan, Jakeb Cain, Joshua Lentner, Cole Twisleton, Handro Vermeulen.

Our only “Senior” game tomorrow is our mighty Presidents team playing near rivals Marist at 2.45pm. Last week the Presidents back line included Orene Aii, Pita & Tony Alatini and Romi Ropati in what has to be one of the most potent back lines the Presidents have ever had. Who will be the next big name to sign with these boys??? The rumour has it they are after a certain R McCaw’s signature for next season! Watch this space!

In local College rugby the very best of luck to Saint Kent’s as they take on Auckland Grammar in a clash of the titans at Eden Park tomorrow in the ARU 1a final. Saint Kent’s will feature two of our outstanding young juniors from the U12 & U13 teams that last won a title in 2009/10 in Braydon Ennor and Dalton Papalii. On behalf of the club, good luck boys. In local 1b action Pakuranga College will play Mangere College in the final of the plate section at 12 noon,  Pakuranga College # 1. The club is also hosting the Pakuranga College 5th Grade side tomorrow on LEP 1 at 10am. Finally good luck to the Sancta Maria first XV as they play the final of 1c tomorrow against Waitakere College.

The weekend also sees a host of Pakuranga players taking to the field in Auckland Representative sides. It is not that long ago that our boys used to be over looked by selectors so to now not have enough space to name all our rep players in one email is something our club is very proud off. Again on behalf of our members good luck boys I each of your matches.

Last Friday our annual Steinlager Bledisloe Function was held in the Montressors lounge and what a gem of a day it was. Guest speaker Eric Rush entrances the large crowd of over 200 with some very funny stories of his past before the “Entertainer” of the Ranga “Crackers” ran an auction to raise funds for the 2015 / 16 PURC U15 & U18 Academies. This year $14,500 was raised to put into teaching our young men. A big thank you to everyone who attended and an extra special thank you for those who donated towards the auction.

Finally the Friday Knighters get back together tonight after a one week layoff for the Bledisloe Luncheon function. Tonight’s draw is $100 at 6.30pm with nibbles and the usual happy hour in place prior to this.
